The Lanesborough Hotel London. Even though I am a Cotswold wedding photographer I am lucky enough to work all over the UK. November took me to London to shoot a very special wedding at The Lanesborough Hotel, Hyde Park. Gerogina and Matt decided to get married at the opulent hotel in central London for a very good reason. Georgina’s father ran the hotel for many years from its opening in 1991 when it was transformed from the former St Georges Hospital. He oversaw the buildings £60million pound refurbishment a few years ago before retiring earlier last year.  The Gelardi family are no strangers to running hotels, for generations the family have looked after hotels such as The Bel-Air in Los Angeles, Waldorf Astoria, New York , The Sorrento Hotel in Seattle and Claridges in London.

With this in mind I was in no doubt that this would be a very special occasion.  All the stops were pulled out for wedding bliss. I went down to London to meet with Georgina ahead of their wedding, I actually spent the day in the city as I had the excuse! I took myself to the Tate Modern to see a photographic exhibition about light before heading to Hyde Park Corner.  It was nice to see how at home Gerogina seemed in the hotel and everyone knew who she was. The more comfortable people are in their environment the more authentic the story feels photographically.  Although the location was a grand and formal  Georgina was keen to keep the photography real, and relaxed.

Winter Weddings

Winter weddings are by their nature challenging to shoot, but that’s all part of the fun. I work with light and when nature removes its availbility I have to create my own.

The arrival of the wedding cake was a special moment.  It was made by the Queens Pastry Chef Selwin Stoby and was a work of art.  I should of guessed when I spotted the impeccable chef whites, with the royal crest embroidered on them, but the penny didn’t drop until it was mentioned in the speeches.  I was also later treated to a slice! I rate myself quite a cake connoisseur, I can tell you, it was perfection!

Georgina and Matt were doing a ‘first look’ so we got all the formal pictures out of the way before the ceremony leaving only the couple shots to do later on. This is not something that happens much in the UK but is a great idea for winter weddings with a late ceremony time.

Georgina and Matt enjoyed a fantastic day and evening at the Lanesborough Hotel . Everyone savored the incredible food and the drinks kept flowing. We were looked after so well by the hotel and by the family it was such a pleasure to be part of.

The incredible band got going and everyone was read to party, with coctails and dance move spilling all over the floor!

Kind words

“Matt and I absolutely love the slide show and the music you’ve chosen is just perfect!! We’ve watched it countless times already! It such a lovely way to share some of the best bits! Thank you so much for putting this together for us.”
